Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them VR Game Review

Introduction

Fantasy becomes Virtual Reality in this new game. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them VR Game immerses you into the beautiful yet scary world of Newt Scamander and his magical creatures. Released on January 30th 2018 for PC, the game allows you to become a wizard and interact with the magical world which created the foundation for the widely acclaimed Harry Potter movies. In the game, you are Newt and your objective is to solve cases involving magical creatures. Just like in the movie, you are tasked with finding, capturing and caring for these creatures while avoiding the wiles and evil intentions of the Ministry of Magic. The game was developed by Framestore and published by Warner Brothers. Fans of fantasy and those who would like a walk through the world of magic can do so in this game by using the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets. Here is a detailed Review of the game.

Graphics

Nothing was left to chance in ensuring that the graphics of this game are as realistic as possible. A game which tackles fantasy magic as a subject is guaranteed to have a wide collection of creatures, people, flora and architecture. Framestore did a great job of ensuring that each of these are beautifully designed and look as realistic as possible. While playing the game, you can cast spells and defend yourself against them using your wand. The transformations are sharp and they leave you in awe of the depth and effectiveness of Virtual Reality technology. While the graphics are not perfect, they are really good. Thus, the game gets a 4.5 rating on graphics.

Gameplay

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an awesome title to cover in Virtual Reality. Seeing as Newt engages in rather dramatic sequences in his quests, it was interesting to see how this would look like in a VR environment. As would be expected, Framestore created a smooth gameplay experience. The game feels fluid as you navigate the streets of New York on the hunt for magical creatures. The controls are easy to understand and get accustomed to. In a bid to keep things simple, there aren’t many movements required so as to cast spells, defend yourself or catch pesky magical creatures. As such, it is playable by teens and adults alike in a smooth way. The usual gaming glitches occurred once or twice during the first gameplay experience but they were rare and far apart. As such, the game gets a 3 on gameplay.

Sound

Designed to be compatible with Dolby Surround Sound, the game holds nothing back in sound effects. The transformations, creatures, spells, surrounding environment and even your own breathing are audible in the game. This adds so much realism to the experience that you are immersed fully in the game’s Virtual Reality with no desire to get back to your day to day life. While the loud sounds are easily audible and creature screeches can be deafening, the true sound quality emerges during conversation with game characters. The words are very clear. Furthermore, tweeting birds and the occasional buzzing bug are audible too. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them VR Game gets a 4 on sound.

Conclusion

Playable on a PC, this game is a gem for those who enjoy fantasy and adventure. Framestore have brought the magical world of Newt Scamander to life in this VR game. It is currently available and more details can be found in their official website.
